He unwisely opened the gates to an old Elmorian friend, who abused his trust by poisoning the castle's well. Many of the soldiers and their families died, and Elmore's army easily overran the depleted force. Distraught at his failure, Andras fell on his sword. It is said that his ghost still wanders the castle's ruins.
